SVAA

In 2011 Indiana was awarded a State Victim Assistance Academy Grant from the Office for Victims of Crime.   The Indiana Coalition Against Sexual Assault serves as the lead agency for this initiative.   The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute and Ivy Tech Community College are the primary partners for the academy.
The purpose of the academy is to provide a basic 40 hour generalist training for victim advocates and victim witness assistance professionals across Indiana.   In the first year of the project INCASA, ICJI, and Ivy Tech along with key partners will be working with OVC to plan the first academy.   In future years the academy will explore advanced and specialized training opportunities for advocates as well as look toward academic credit opportunities for advocates seeking to advance their education toward a degree.
Steering Committee Partners for the Indiana State Victim Assistance Academy:
  • Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence
  • U.S. Attorney Southern District Indiana
  • Indiana Office of the Attorney General
  • Latino Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence
  • Indiana Department of Corrections
  • Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council
