Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) training and technical assistance

Indiana law states”…the prosecuting attorney shall appoint a sexual assault response team in that county…” IC 16-21-8-1.5

While each community’s team may encounter unique situations or challenges, this 4-6 hour training will cover the basic guidelines to provide a foundation for implementing a more comprehensive response to victims of sexual assault from inception of a case through adjudication. The objectives of this training are to provide a framework for establishing a SART while allowing for the flexibility and diversity needed in each community to address local needs to sexual assault victims. As Indiana begins the process of establishing a coordinated and united response system at the county level to victims of sex crimes it should be recognized that this is just the beginning. There is a need to focus efforts on prevention and establishing a SART that reflects a system-wide intolerance for sexual violence of any kind. This training is set by county or region through the local prosecutors offices. No continuing education credits/units are granted for the training.

Technology: Safety and the NET

The increase in utilizing the internet and technology to exchange information has also started the increase of victims of violent crimes by means of technology. Each training session will focus on a form of technology safety. The training objectives are to increase the knowledge of the participants in safety planning, stalking, data confidentiality and social media sites. This training may offer continuing education credits/units for legal, law enforcement, medical and mental health when applicable. Check for continuing education credits/units.

Military and Civilian Advocacy Training

Indiana National Guard, Joint Forces Headquarter Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) and INCASA

The scope of these trainings will talk about prevention and education work that civilian and the military victim advocates can do outside of the hospital. Military personnel, victim advocates, hospital staff and service personnel take action in an organized partnership response to victims of a sexual assault in the military. This partnership brings civilian advocates and military advocates together for a one day training to coordinate sexual assault violence prevention education and response for servicemen and airmen throughout the state of Indiana. No continuing education credits/units are granted for the training.
